Privacy Policy for Haiku

1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy applies globally to all users of Haiku, a daily poetry reading app for iOS published by Panda Taps LLC. This policy explains what data Haiku collects, why, and what it never collects.

2. What We Collect

Nothing personally identifying. Haiku has no sign-up, no sign-in, and no user accounts. We do not collect your name, email, phone number, contacts, or social-media identity.

• Reading history, highlights, favorites, and reading streak are stored only on your device using Apple SwiftData.
• None of this data is transmitted to Panda Taps. We do not operate a backend that receives reading data.
• Your preferences (theme, font size, notification time) are stored on your device in iOS UserDefaults.

3. What Apple May Collect on Our Behalf

Standard crash diagnostics and performance metrics may be reported via Apple's MetricKit framework, but only if you have opted in to "Share With App Developers" in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements. This data is aggregated and anonymized by Apple before we ever see it; we receive trend-level metrics, not records tied to an individual user or device.

• You can disable MetricKit reporting at any time in iOS Settings.
• We do not receive crash reports tied to any identity, advertising identifier, or persistent device ID.

4. In-App Purchases

Subscription transactions for Haiku Plus and the one-time lifetime purchase are handled by Apple's StoreKit. Panda Taps receives only a transaction confirmation from Apple - never your payment-card details, billing address, Apple ID email, or any identity information.

• Subscription status flags (active, in trial, expired, lifetime) are read locally from StoreKit and are not transmitted to our servers.
• Apple sends you renewal reminders before the trial ends and any time the subscription renews.

5. Third-Party Services

None. Haiku does not include any third-party advertising SDK, analytics SDK, attribution SDK, behavioral tracking SDK, or crash reporting SDK that transmits individual user actions. The app makes no network calls except those Apple makes for StoreKit transactions.

• No Google Analytics, no Firebase, no Mixpanel, no Amplitude, no Segment.
• No Facebook SDK, no AppsFlyer, no Adjust, no Branch.
• No Sentry, no Crashlytics, no Bugsnag.
• No fingerprinting libraries, no advertising identifiers.

6. Children's Privacy

Haiku is rated 4+ on the App Store. We do not knowingly collect data from any user, and Haiku is safe for children. The corpus consists of public-domain poetry curated for general audiences.

7. Account and Sign-In

Haiku does not require an account, an email address, a password, or any form of sign-in. There is no "create account" flow. The app is fully usable from the first launch without identifying yourself in any way.

8. Third-Party Content

• Poems are public-domain works, drawn from the corpora maintained by sources such as PoetryDB and Project Gutenberg. Each poem's author and year are displayed in the app.
• Author biographies are adapted from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 license (CC BY-SA 4.0). Source attribution is preserved inside the app.

9. Data Deletion

Because all data is stored locally on your device, deleting the app removes all user data - reading history, favorites, highlights, streak, preferences - in one step. There is no cloud copy of your reading data on our servers because we have no servers.

• To delete favorites or highlights individually, open the corresponding tab in Haiku and swipe to delete.
• Subscription cancellation is handled through iOS Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions.

10. Your Rights

You can exercise these rights from inside the app or by emailing support@pandataps.com:

• Right to access - your data lives on your device; everything is visible from inside the app.
• Right to delete - uninstall the app to remove everything, or delete favorites and highlights individually.
• Right to opt out of any sale or sharing - Haiku does not sell or share personal information; the opt-out is the default.
• California residents have additional rights under the CCPA / CPRA.
• EEA, UK, and Switzerland residents have rights under GDPR (access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, objection).

11. Cookies and Trackers

Haiku is a native iOS app and does not use cookies. We do not use third-party advertising or behavioral tracking SDKs.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. Any material changes will update the "Effective Date" at the top of this page and will be surfaced inside the app's Settings.
