Frequently asked questions

How do you keep score in pickleball?

In traditional doubles, only the serving team can score, games go to 11 win-by-2, and the score is called as three numbers: your score, their score, and the server number (1 or 2). That third number trips everyone - which is why Dink tracks the server automatically and calls the full score out loud after every rally.

What does 0-0-2 mean at the start of a game?

To soften the first-serve advantage, the team that serves first only gets one server in their opening turn - the server is treated as server #2. So the game opens at "zero, zero, two." After that first side-out, both teams always get both servers.

Does the app call the score out loud?

Yes - spoken score call-outs, server number and all, so nobody has to remember whether it's 6-8-1 or 6-8-2. Tap the side that scored and Dink announces it, updates the big scoreboard, and keeps the rally moving. One tap undoes a mistake.

Does Dink support rally scoring and singles?

Both. Start any game as singles or doubles, traditional side-out scoring or rally scoring - and the scoreboard, call-outs, and stats adapt to the format.

What size is a pickleball court, in feet and meters?

A pickleball court is 20 x 44 ft (6.10 x 13.41 m) for singles and doubles alike, with a 7 ft (2.13 m) non-volley zone each side and a net at 36 in (0.91 m) on the sidelines and 34 in (0.86 m) at the center. Plan on a 30 x 60 ft (9.14 x 18.29 m) total surface if you are building one.

What is a dink, anyway?

The soft shot the app is named for: a ball hit gently from near the kitchen line that lands in the opponent's non-volley zone, too low to be attacked. Dink rallies are the chess match of pickleball - patience wins them.

Can I score from my Apple Watch?

Yes - your watch becomes a wrist scoreboard. Start a singles or doubles game and tap to score without ever pulling the phone out of your bag. It's free, like all core scoring.

What does Dink Pro add?

Unlimited match history, full stats and head-to-head records, the on-device AI Coach with personalized tips, live score broadcast to nearby phones and TVs, custom themes, shareable score cards, and iCloud sync. Free covers unlimited scoring, call-outs, Apple Watch, and your last five matches.

What does the AI Coach do?

After a match it reads how the game actually unfolded - runs, comebacks, serve holds - and tells you why you won or lost with two or three concrete things to work on. It runs on-device: your matches never leave your phone.

Do I need an account?

No account, no ads, no tracking. Match history lives on your device or in your own private iCloud - nothing else touches it.
