What score do you start on in darts?

The standard game is 501: both sides start on 501 points and race to exactly zero, finishing on a double. 301 is a common shorter game, traditionally played double in, and 701 or 1001 appear in pairs and team play.

What is the highest checkout in darts?

170, made with treble 20, treble 20 and the bull. Seven scores below it can never be finished in three darts under double-out rules: 169, 168, 166, 165, 163, 162 and 159.

How high is a dartboard and how far away do you stand?

The bull sits 5 ft 8 in (1.73 m) from the floor, and the throw line is 7 ft 9.25 in (2.37 m) from the face of the board for steel tip. Soft-tip setups use 8 ft (2.44 m).

Do you have to finish on a double in darts?

In standard 501 and 301, yes: the dart that takes you to exactly zero must land in a double or the bull, which counts as double 25. Casual straight-out games drop the requirement, and any dart can finish.

What happens if you bust in 501?

A visit busts if it takes your score below zero, to exactly 1, or to zero without finishing on a double. The whole visit is void, your score returns to what it was before the visit, and your turn ends immediately.

What is a 180 in darts?

The maximum score with three darts: three treble 20s at 60 points each. It is the best single visit possible, which is why the caller gives it the full one hundred and eighty.

How does Cricket scoring work in darts?

Cricket uses only 15 through 20 and the bull. Three marks close a number, with singles worth one mark, doubles two and trebles three. Extra hits on a number you have closed score points while any opponent still has it open, and you win by closing everything with at least as many points.

What is a good darts average?

Around 40 is a typical beginner figure, 50 to 60 is a solid pub standard, strong league players sit at 70 to 85, and PDC professionals average 95 to 105 in matches. The televised record is Michael van Gerwen's 123.40.

What is a 9-dart finish?

The perfect leg: winning 501, double out, in the minimum possible nine darts. The classic route is 180, 180, then 141 finished as treble 20, treble 19, double 12.

Why does the bullseye count as 50, and can you finish on it?

The outer bull ring scores 25 and the inner circle scores 50. The 50 counts as double 25, so it is a legal finishing dart in double-out games and completes the famous 170 checkout.
